The Power of Gratitude

Im a firm believer in "The Secret," and if you dont know what it is let me give you a small definition:

"The book/movie states that The Secret is based on an unfailing universal law, the law of attraction. This law states that whatever we focus our attention on is attracted to us. Our thoughts and feelings create our reality. When we consciously direct our thoughts and feelings toward the positive goals we want to achieve, we send forth a message to the universal consciousness and attract the results we concentrate on. The book does not explain the theory, process or mechanism by which the law works. It advises practitioners to concentrate on the result to be achieved and insists that method is infallible."
--Wikia.com

Broken down into an easier definition that i relate to, it means that people must envision their future and what they want to happen. We must be grateful for what we have and good things will continue to happen, but most of all we must focus on the positive aspects of every situation. When we allow negative thoughts to enter our minds we then allow the universe to arrange those negative things to happen.

I can honestly sit here and tell you i use this everyday of my life. Its not something you learn overnight and must be practiced everyday, but it truly has helped make my dreams come true. Example: When i was going thru the process to enter the Peace Corps i envisioned myself walking off the plane at the airport and seeing these people with open arms/hearts putting beads around my neck then wisking us away to our new paradise. Im not lying when i say this EXACT thing happened to me once i got here. I walked off the plane to beautiful sunshine, 3 Peace Corps staff so excited to see us and 5 other volunteers with spice beads and a sign. EXACTLY how i envisioned it, like the world had placed me right where i wanted to be.

Now i could go on and on about all the examples of how the secret has worked in my life but that would take way to much time and my fingers would get sore from typing. One of the practices of The Secret is to write down your Gratitude as often as you can. I do this pretty frequently in my head but i thought it was time to write it down, so here it goes, Im grateful for:

--President Kennedy (started the Peace Corps)
--Peace Corps staff
--fellow volunteers
--Grenadians
--my landlord
--my mom and sister
--the fan that keeps me cool
--vegetables and fruits right off the tree
--public transportation
--the sun
--most beautiful Caribbean Sea
--days off
--the ability to read
--internet
--my bed
--friends back home who support my dreams
--Shay
--shorts and tank tops
--the ability to smile and laugh

End of the world?

I was walking to town today with two other Peace Corps volunteers and saw all these random people looking up at the sky. After seeing about 15 people we knew something was up and looked in the sky. This is what appeared. No one is for sure what it is, but some locals are saying its the end of the world coming. haha. who knows....

Another move and Jellyfish

I seem to have lots to update people on but not much of a real motivation to do so. haha. I will suck it up and do it though.

Saturday morning marked the day of liberation for the 8 of us new Peace Corps Trainees. Friday was our last day of training so we moved out of our homestay families and into our independent housing. This was the 5 move for me since leaving mid Feburary so i was glad to finally not have to live out of suitcases and small bedrooms. I live in a quiet village called St.Pauls, located up in the mountains of Grenada. Its about a 15 minute bus ride to town where most everything is located.

After settling in a bit and decided what i was missing in my apartment, another volunteer and I ventured into town to scavenge for these things. We havent been on island long enough to know the right places to go for little household things so we drug along a current volunteer who so kindly showed us where to go and not to go. That evening i had some other new volunteers over to my apartment for some relaxation beverages, haha. We found ourselves recounting all the funny times thus far and singing the Grenada National Anthem. Dont ask me to sing it now though. haha.

I live up the street from the married couple that are in our group, so its nice to be able to just walk over there. That doesnt happen much in Grenada, as most everything is a bus ride away and costs money. So this morning we decided to get up and head to St.Davids parish where there is a beach we have been wanting to see. Its called La Sagesse and is located in a very rural part of the island, so we knew it was going to be an adventure to get there. It ended up being a great time since the beach is very quiet and no annoying tourists around.

But of course i cant go anywhere without a minor drama, including a small island in the middle of nowhere, and was stung by a thimble jellyfish. They are tiny little jellyfish the size of a quarter but their sting is felt like its huge. It immediatly swelled up, but i voted against the theory of peeing on it and i seem to be fine. Thank goodness.

Until next time...
