The Power of Gratitude

Im a firm believer in "The Secret," and if you dont know what it is let me give you a small definition:

"The book/movie states that The Secret is based on an unfailing universal law, the law of attraction. This law states that whatever we focus our attention on is attracted to us. Our thoughts and feelings create our reality. When we consciously direct our thoughts and feelings toward the positive goals we want to achieve, we send forth a message to the universal consciousness and attract the results we concentrate on. The book does not explain the theory, process or mechanism by which the law works. It advises practitioners to concentrate on the result to be achieved and insists that method is infallible."

Broken down into an easier definition that i relate to, it means that people must envision their future and what they want to happen. We must be grateful for what we have and good things will continue to happen, but most of all we must focus on the positive aspects of every situation. When we allow negative thoughts to enter our minds we then allow the universe to arrange those negative things to happen.

I can honestly sit here and tell you i use this everyday of my life. Its not something you learn overnight and must be practiced everyday, but it truly has helped make my dreams come true. Example: When i was going thru the process to enter the Peace Corps i envisioned myself walking off the plane at the airport and seeing these people with open arms/hearts putting beads around my neck then wisking us away to our new paradise. Im not lying when i say this EXACT thing happened to me once i got here. I walked off the plane to beautiful sunshine, 3 Peace Corps staff so excited to see us and 5 other volunteers with spice beads and a sign. EXACTLY how i envisioned it, like the world had placed me right where i wanted to be.

Now i could go on and on about all the examples of how the secret has worked in my life but that would take way to much time and my fingers would get sore from typing. One of the practices of The Secret is to write down your Gratitude as often as you can. I do this pretty frequently in my head but i thought it was time to write it down, so here it goes, Im grateful for:

--President Kennedy (started the Peace Corps)
--Peace Corps staff
--fellow volunteers
--Grenadians
--my landlord
--my mom and sister
--the fan that keeps me cool
--vegetables and fruits right off the tree
--public transportation
--the sun
--most beautiful Caribbean Sea
--days off
--the ability to read
--internet
--my bed
--friends back home who support my dreams
--Shay
--shorts and tank tops
--the ability to smile and laugh
